Welcome to today's Encounter Time with God. Scroll through this post and use it for spending time with God today.
Today we are going to read a passage from
Hebrews. The Bible is the primary place
where we hear God speak. So read (or watch the video below with the) passage
2-3 times and listen for God to speak. Use your own Bible and reading underline or circle anything that stands out.
READ
2-3 TIMES
Hebrews 6:13–20 (NIV) The Certainty of God’s
Promise
13 When
God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him
to swear by, he swore by himself, 14 saying, “I will surely bless you and give
you many descendants.” 15 And so after
waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. 16 People swear by
someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an
end to all argument. 17 Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his
purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it
with an oath. 18 God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in
which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the
hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. 19 We have this hope as an anchor
for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the
curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has
become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
This passage reminds us of the promise God
made to Abraham in Genesis 12. The promise from God through Abraham’s faith his
family would be blessed. It also says in
Genesis 12:3 that all peoples on earth will be blessed. That promise is God using Abraham’s family to
bring us Jesus which is our promise. I
really like vs 17-18… it reminds us that God isn’t a liar and this should be an
encouragement to us. Basically, God’s
promises are trustworthy! The world is
full of so many broken promises. If you
were to make a list it would be too long to count. This passage gives us hope that God is
TRUSTWORTHY. He does what he says...he
is trustworthy and keeps his promises.
